Program # : 2999

Length: 1 Hour

Credits: 1 LU/HSW

Description:
According to the AIA the definition of sustainable design “…is a collaborative process that involves thinking ecologically—studying systems, relationships, and interactions—in order to design in ways that removes rather than contributes stress to systems.” With the emphasis on stress to the systems, we begin with a look at the shameful toxic history of the textile industry. Fortunately for the safety, health and welfare of the all-living species, significant game changing and environmentally friendly strategies are replacing these old dangerous methods. This course presents the current trends in the production and use of sustainable textiles for interiors.

Another way to reduce stress is to provide an interior living space where we are able to engage with materials, views and images of the outside natural world. Positive results are documented in all aspects of our lives from schools to businesses to health care when we are able to introduce natural elements into our homes, offices and hospitals.

We can call this idea: ReWild Design. This doesn’t mean excluding the comfortable indoor environments we demand and expect. What it refers is bringing elements of nature into our interior design. How do we ReWild the living space?
