1969 was a great year for me. As an eleven year old boy I had a lot to be happy about. That year in New York we had The Knicks, Mets and Jets all winning championships. I spent my time imagining I was Walt Frazier, Tom Seaver and Joe Namath in their days of glory.
I also spent my time going to school or working in my parents store. Even though I was just a boy, my father gave me responsibilities when I went to work in their housewares store in Nanuet, New York. Among the hundreds of items for sale, we also sold roller shades. These were shades that were able to be cut down right in front of the customer while they watched. Below is a photo of that machine.

Besides the roller shades, we offered Kirsch Drapery Hardware. All of the basic curtain rods, traverse rods, decorative rods as well as drapery pins and other accessories. There was also the Kirsch Windows Beautiful magazine which sold for $1.00.
I still have a 1969 edition of that magazine that shows the latest drapery fashions of the day. I’ve included some of the photos below. It is amazing how most of the styles and hardware has not changed much. Even the fabrics look suprisingly fresh. Enjoy…
