Perhaps you’ve asked the question, why should we put out a set of specifications for a simple interior design project? Why not just put everything on the drawings? This special program is being sponsored by the Construction Specifications Institute Metropolitan New York Chapter to answer those and other questions you might have about specs for interior projects.
Linton Stables, CSI, CCS, LEED AP, Assoc. AIA, and president of the local CSI chapter, will address this topic at an event just for interior designers. You will be surprised by some of what he has to say on the topic, such as, “There are perfectly good reasons to put specifications on the drawings-sometimes.” Linton is the Chief of Specifications at Perkins Eastman, leading a technical resource team which serves their worldwide offices in such varied practice areas as health care, hospitality, senior living, higher education, and judicial centers. “Interiors are the biggest challenge to specification writers, and I am nearly certain that understanding spec writers is a challenge for interior designers. Let’s get together and make this work!”

Seriously, we’re not so serious
The Construction Specification Institute sounds so serious… and there are some things that we are serious about, like the best way to communicate design intent to those who build our projects. But we also enjoy getting together for learning, laughing, and just plain socializing. In fact, on January 12 we are playing Jeopardy, a design/construction industry version of the TV game show. Dinner is part of the deal, and it’s free! Our membership includes architects, interior designers, contractors, product representatives, educators, government agency professionals, and students.
Check us out.
