Decorating with Fabric is pleased to announce that it has been chosen to fabricate and install the new Stage Curtains for the soon to be renovation of the Pelham Picture House.
Here is a little background about the project:
For almost 90 years, the Pelham Picture House has been a part of the southern Westchester community. From the silent movies of the 1920s to the blockbusters of today, the Picture House has been a barometer of the world around us. Surviving change after change, the Picture House was adapted for “the talkies,” struggled through the depression and became a source of news from the front during World War II, all while providing an oasis of entertainment for the surrounding communities.
Under the direction of the architectural firm of Davis Brody Bond, the renovation and expansion of the existing facility thoughtfully integrates the old and the new. Plans include a renovation/restoration of the original theater. Important upgrades include new seats, carpeting, improved sight and sound, exposed original wood trusses and brick columns, wheelchair accessible facilities, and an expanded lobby and streamlined concessions area.
The expansion plan consists of a two-story addition along Brookside Avenue that will house a new 100-seat theater and dedicated film education space for Film Literacy, Filmmaking, and other Picture House film education offerings. In keeping with our residential neighborhood, the addition is wood clad with stone at the base. All original red brick will be exposed. Visible from the front of the theater on Wolfs Lane, a primary commercial thoroughfare in Pelham, the addition will bring vibrancy to the downtown village streetscape.
The Picture House, at 175 Wolfs Lane in Pelham, NY, is conveniently located in Southern Westchester County, and is just 16 miles from midtown Manhattan. The Picture House is also convenient to the Northern Bronx, Southern Fairfield Connecticut and Manhattan.
