This past week, Decorating with Fabric was presented with the Green Business Award for the Small Business Category by the Rockland Business Association. I was very proud to accept this award on behalf of my dedicated team at Decorating with Fabric. Below are some photos from the event and the text of the acceptance speech that I gave.

RBA Speech
Hi, my name is Neil Gordon and I do Green Windows!
What is a Green Window? It is a window that is treated by a window covering to prevent the loss of heat in winter and to filter out solar heat gain in summer with green and sustainable products and ideas.
Back in 1993 I made an attempt to offer products under the name of Organic Interiors. The main obstacle to getting it off the ground was that I only had one product to offer – Organic Cotton in one color – natural. 17 year later, the demand has become mainstream and the product selection has exploded. Yet some of these products have been around for generations such as Silk in 145 colors that is hand woven in India using individual family weavers. Fabrics that are made on hand made wooden looms – some of which are at least 100 years old. No electricity is used in the spinning, weaving or dying process, leaving a zero carbon foot print. The silk is painstaking woven by hand – with only 4 yards of silk produced per day per loom. This is an example of one of the great stories.
My story is that Decorating with Fabric has successfully employed sustainable and green supplies, products and practices into our Drapery & Window Covering business. We are aware of our own footprint in the design, creation and installation of our treatments and strive to provide sustainable solutions to protect the environment.
I would like to thank the Green Council Award Committee who voted for my company. I am appreciative that the committee confirmed my beliefs in the efforts we strive for to make our small contribution to a Greener Planet. It is a honor that I will never forget.
Thank you.
